New Orleans, LA -- The following awards were presented today during ACOG's 56th Annual Clinical Meeting, held May 3 through May 7, 2008.
ACOG/Abbott Nutrition Research Award on Nutrition in Pregnancy
This $25,000 award is given to a Junior Fellow or Fellow of ACOG to perform research to advance knowledge on issues related to nutrition in pregnancy. This year's award went to:
Cecilia T. Gambala, MD -- Fellow, Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, IL; "Maintaining Prepregnancy Body Mass Index in Overweight and Obese Women May Prevent Associated Disease Processes in Pregnancy"
ACOG/Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Research Award in Contraception
This $25,000 award is given to a Junior Fellow or Fellow of ACOG to perform research in the area of contraception, such as new advances in contraception or quality-of-life benefits of contraceptives. This year's award went to:
Kristina M. Tocce, MD -- Senior Instructor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, CO; "Delay of Rapid Repeat Teen Pregnancy: Immediate Postpartum Subdermal Contraception"
ACOG/Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Research Award in PMS/PMDD
This $25,000 award is given to a Junior Fellow or Fellow of ACOG to perform research that will improve understanding of Premenstrual Syndrome/Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMS/PMDD). This year's award went to:

ACOG/Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Research Award on Female Sexual Dysfunction
This $10,000 award is given to a Junior Fellow or Fellow of ACOG to provide the opportunity to advance knowledge on issues related to female sexual dysfunction. This year's award went to:
Leah S. Millheiser, MD -- Instructor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Stanford University, Stanford, CA; "Creating an Evidence-Based Curriculum in Female Sexual Dysfunction for Medical Student Education"
ACOG Community Service Award
This award is given to Junior Fellows or Fellows of ACOG from one or more ACOG districts who have performed outstanding community service. Award recipients receive a $500 honorarium plus free registration to attend the ACOG Annual Clinical Meeting. This year's awards went to:

Donald F. Richardson Memorial Prize Paper Award
This award is given to two Junior Fellows of ACOG for papers presented at an ACOG district meeting in the preceding year. Each award recipient receives $1,000 in addition to $750 for travel expenses to ACOG's Annual Clinical Meeting. This year's awards went to:

ACOG/Hologic Research Award for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer
This $15,000 award is given to a Junior Fellow or Fellow of ACOG interested in clinical research in the area of cervical cancer prevention. This year's award went to:

ACOG Honorary Fellowship Award
This award is given to individuals from any country for their outstanding achievement in the field of obstetrics and gynecology or an allied discipline. These individuals have attained national and international recognition and have a relationship with activities in the US involving women's health care. This year's awards went to:

This $30,000 stipend provides academic training fellowships to two Junior Fellows or Fellows of ACOG to spend an extra year doing work that will help train them for an academic career in ob-gyn. This year's awards went to:
